History:

Our Lady of Lourdes' Catholic Church (Kyaiklatt)

 

Kyaiklat town is about 48 miles south of the city of Yangon. Most of the faithful are Tamil. This mission was started by French Missionaries in 1906 and was continued by native priests since 1960. The parish comprises 250 families with over 1600 faithful. The majority of them are farmers, some breed fowls and some run small businesses. There are 1 priest and 12 nuns, OSM, working together.

 

One of the most effective evangelization efforts in our area was the opening of a boarding house for boys and girls. We ran the boarding education since 1926 till now. From this boarding education we have proudly produced 40 fine priests and 200 hard working Religious Sisters.
